The Meaning, Value, and Practice of Critical Thinking with Sahar Joakim, Ph.D

The Meaning, Value, and Practice of Critical Thinking with Sahar Joakim, Ph.D Online

Thinking is an activity, and activities take time. Is thinking a waste of time? Socrates was sentenced to death for corrupting the youth, and at trial he said the unexamined life is not worth living. He wanted people to examine their lives and think for themselves. But what’s the point of thinking when we can ask Siri or the newest AI to think for us? Google instantly reports answers, so why ask a librarian for help with research? Critical thinking is a skill that some of us do well, some do poorly, and doesn’t it seem like some people don’t think at all? Since critical thinking is a skill, we can practice it and improve our abilities. Should we? In this lecture, you’ll learn the meaning, value, and practice of critical thinking.
